What is the Magne-Flo Excess Flow Valve?
The valve is a patent protected magnetic ferrite capsule, housed in a brass fitting which shuts off gas in the event of a break in the line or appliance. Once the repair is carried out, the valve automatically resets itself.
Is the valve authorised for use in the UK?
Yes, BG/Advantica Certification Services, Loughborough, have issed certificate number TC/05/009 giving full authorisation in the UK and Europe.
Does it completely shut off the gas?
No. The valve has the ability to reset itself after a problem has been rectified. To do this, a by-pass allows a small exit of gas to pass through. This is dissipated into the atmosphere until the repair is carried out, whereupon the valve completely resets itself.
Is the valve new?
No. It has been in use successfully in the USA for over 10 years. It is now a legal requirement in the USA for LPG, and mandatory for gas suppliers to inform natural gas users that this valve is available.
Where should I fit the valves?
The 28mm valves fits at the meter. In the UK the valves must be fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Does the valve require maintenance?
No. Once fitted, you can safely forget about it. With only one moving part and using durable materials, the valve should last 400 years!
